The Chicago Blackhawks have been without veteran top six winger Marian Hossa since February 13th with a leg injury, but they were hoping to re-gain his services by Wednesday evening.

That will no longer be the case.

Per Tracey Myers of CSN, the Blackhawks have confirmed that the 37 year old Hossa will not return to the lineup this evening as the Central Division club faces the St. Louis Blues on the road in Missouri. Instead, it seems more likely that he could return on Friday, when they head to Dallas for a contest against the Stars.

This shuffles the expected lines for the team as they head into their game this evening, as Hossa had been projected to join a line with Jonathan Toews and Andrew Ladd. Instead, it’s possible that Andrew Shaw, who has been taking his place with the two top six forwards, will continue to play up in the lineup for at least one more game – although it seems probable that the team is hoping to change this as soon as they can.

Despite sitting out a handful of games, Hossa – who was recently named to Team Europe for the 2016 World Cup of Hockey – has recorded 10 goals and 28 points over 54 games played. While he’s projected for his first sub-20 goal season (not including the 2012-13 lockout) since the 1998-99 campaign, his return will still be a huge asset.
