The Chicago Blackhawks have seen blue liner David Rundblad playing in their AHL system for the last few weeks following the end of his 2015-16 season in Switzerland – and now, with the post-season approaching, the Central Division club will bring him back to the NHL.

The Blackhawks confirmed on Monday afternoon that Rundblad, who has put up two goals and four points in 10 AHL games for the Rockford Ice Hogs this spring, has been recalled to the big club.

Drafted 17th overall by the St. Louis Blues in 2009, Rundblad has been shuttled around the NHL quite a bit already in his young hockey career. He was first dealt to the Ottawa Senators for a first round pick (which later became winger Vladimir Tarasenko), then to the Arizona Coyotes for Kyle Turris. Finally, the Coyotes sent him to Chicago for the second round pick that became Christian Dvorak; now, after clearing waivers for the Blackhawks this year, it seems hard to imagine he’d yield anything similar in the future.

With two assists in nine NHL games this year, this is likely a recall for depth than anything – but two goals and 15 points in 11 regular season games for Swiss-A’s Zurich club during a departure for Europe midway through the year. His ability to regularly get play while overseas could help his chances to re-entering the lineup this post-season.
