The Chicago Blackhawks drafted goaltender Mac Carruth with the 191st overall selection in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, but he’s mostly remained within their minor league system at the bottom tier – in the ECHL with Indy Fuel.

Now, though, it looks like the Blackhawks want to ensure they keep the 23 year old netminder in their system a little bit longer – or at least have the flexibility to move him around in the system a bit more:

By moving Carruth from an AHL contract to an NHL deal, the Blackhawks gain a bit more flexibility with their goaltending depth moving through the end of the season. The Blackhawks will now have the ability to move the netminder – who boasts a .882 save percentage in six AHL games this year, but a .923 across 21 ECHL games – to another AHL system if needed. They could also recall him to the NHL club if that became necessary, although that seems like a move they may not need to make.

Of course, this could also be a precursor to a trade, as well – so keep an eye on Chicago moving forward.
