The Montreal Canadiens dealt forward Dale Weise to the Chicago Blackhawks just ahead of the 2016 NHL Trade Deadline, sending the 27 year old winger with fellow forward Tomas Fleischmann to the Central Division for prospect Phillip Danault and a second round selection in the 2018 Entry Draft.
Now, Weise is finally able to join his new team.
The Blackhawks confirmed via Tracey Myers of CSN on Wednesday that Weise will travel with the club to Detroit for their game against the Red Wings tonight, although he won’t play, and added that his debut with the Chicago will likely come tomorrow against the Boston Bruins instead.
Drafted 111th overall for the New York Rangers in 2008, Weise has now played in a collective 314 career NHL games. In that time, he’s produced 37 goals and 85 points, including a career high 14 goals and 26 points in 56 games this year alone. The hope that he could provide solid secondary scoring for the Blackhawks this season helped motivate the defending Stanley Cup champions to move assets for Weise – but his first test will come against one of his best teams to play, the Bruins.
The puck will drop for the Blackhawks tonight at 7:00 PM CST .
