The Chicago Blackhawks dealt for forward Dale Weise at the 2016 Trade Deadline in hopes that he could help them to yet another Stanley Cup, but the 27 year old Winnipeg native sat out the first two games of the Western Conference Quarterfinals as a scratch for fellow forward Brandon Mashinter.

Now, he’ll get his shot.

The Blackhawks confirmed just prior to the start of game three against the St. Louis Blues that Weise, who finished 15 regular season games for the club with just one assist, will make his Chicago postseason debut on home ice in Illinois today.

Drafted 111th overall by the New York Rangers in 2008, Weise – a former Swift Current Broncos star forward from the WHL – was one of Montreal’s best forwards during his tenure with the Atlantic Division club prior to getting dealt to Chicago. He recorded 14 goals and 26 points in just 56 games for the Canadiens during the 2015-16 season, setting a career high in goals scored and falling short of his career high in points by just three tallies (although with 23 games in hand on his career best season).

His offensive output has certainly stagnated since leaving Montreal, but the Blackhawks likely hope that will change when he skates out with the club on Sunday afternoon. They’ll look to pull ahead to 2-1 in their best-of-seven series against the St. Louis Blues in their first game of home ice this postseason.
