The Chicago Blackhawks waived former first round pick defenseman David Rundblad earlier in the 2015-16 season, and subsequently lost him to Switzerland for a chunk of the year.

Upon his return, he spent 10 games with the AHL’s Rockford Ice Hogs before getting recalled to the NHL club to help with a postseason run; now, he could draw into the lineup as early as tonight.

The Blackhawks have reportedly told Rundblad to ‘be ready’, suggesting he could be a part of the active lineup when the Central Division team takes on the St. Louis Blues for game four of the Western Conference Quarterfinals. This would be his first postseason game since last year, when he appeared in five playoff games en route to Chicago’s third Stanley Cup in six years.

Drafted 17th overall by the St. Louis Blues in 2009, Rundblad was dealt around the NHL before settling with the Blackhawks; he was first moved to Ottawa for a first round selection (which became Vladimir Tarasenko), then to Phoenix for Kyle Turris and finally to Chicago for a second round selection (which became Christian Dvorak). He’s only drawn into 63 regular season NHL games with the Blackhawks in the last three years, but put up over a point per game while with the Swiss ZSC Lions and could find himself back in better graces with a strong postseason showing.

The Blackhawks and the Blues will face off tonight at 8:30 PM CST in Chicago, where the home team will look to even out their series at 2-2 after losing two of their first three games against their divisional rivals.
