Chicago Blackhawks fans only saw forward Vince Hinostroza for seven games at the NHL level this season, but his performance with the AHL’s Rockford Ice Hogs was one of the best among prospects this year – so he’s been added to Team USA’s roster for the upcoming World Championships.
Team USA confirmed that Hinostroza had been added to the roster on Thursday, joining the growing list of skaters that will head for Russia in a few weeks time in hopes of improving upon their bronze medal performance from 2015.
Drafted 169th overall by the Blackhawks in 2012, Hinostroza spent three seasons with the USHL’s Waterloo Blackhawks before heading to the University of Notre Dame to play for two years. He went pro with the Blackhawks organization after a 44 point sophomore season saw the 5 foot 10 forward lead his team in scoring, and his first pro season has been a success. With 51 points in 66 regular season games for the Rockford Ice Hogs, the 22 year old led the minor league affiliate in scoring with ten games in hand.
Team USA likely still has a few names left to add to their roster, but they’re nearing close to having a full list of players for the tournament. Teams will compete at the World Championships from May 6th to May 22nd, with the games taking place in St. Petersburg and Moscow, Russia.
