The Chicago Blackhawks have seen defenseman Kyle Baun play just two NHL games with the cub this season, but the 23 year old blue liner – inked to a free agent deal this summer following his three year career with Colgate University – seems to have made an impression with the Central Division club.

That’s earned him a two year extension with Chicago, announced on Thursday afternoon.

Baun went undrafted during his draft-eligible years, but the Blackhawks took notice of his play during his time with the ECAC’s Colgate roster as a junior. His final collegiate year saw the Toronto native record 29 points in just 38 games, which was good for second on his team in points production and good for his first pro hockey contract.

Now, the Blackhawks have guaranteed that he’ll be around for two more years.

The deal will carry Baun to the end of the 2017-18 season, although the Blackhawks didn’t specify whether the deal is one way or two way in nature. This could mean that fans may see more of him in the near future, though, as the Blackhawks could see his name as a black ace called up in the post-season again.
